Dear Classmates and Friends:
I want to thank everyone who contributed to the American Diabetes Association Step Out to Fight Diabetes Walk. Team Hilo High had a goal of $3000 and as of today, we have raised $3120. I am extremely grateful to those who supported this worthwhile cause--diabetes is a very serious disease, locally, nationally, and internationally--and having been personally involved in the care of and advocating for people with diabetes and in both basic and clinical research in diabetes for over 3 decades, I know that the American Diabetes Association is at the forefront in terms of supporting education, advocacy, and research to fight this disease. Thus I am always extremely grateful and proud when I see how Vikings always step up to the plate when I have made this annual plea for contributions.
Joining me this past Saturday at Kapiolani Park in Honolulu were Rodney Amasaki, Lester Chuck, Sandra Hoshida, Cal and Carolyn Kawamoto, and Nina Kawamoto. Other team members were Nan Hiraoka and Phyllis Tsutsui but they could not join us for the walk.
